Beauty trick a day - Facemask Weekend special

Today I will share with you two face masks, one a traditional ayurvedic remedy for blackheads, open pores , oily skin (my skin description more or less)and one a rich luxurious dry fruit face mask cum scrub for dry skin (my mother's skin description). These packs are time consuming , but totally worth it for an at home weekend spa. They are all natural. If you want to make these packs for multiple uses, the ayurvedic pack can be stored for up to a week in the fridge. The luxurious dry fruit mask has to prepared differently to be stored in the recipe.

The ayurvedic pack is my DIY clean up at home. I will post on DIY clean up in detail.

For the ayurvedic mask you will need
Neem leaves (handful)
Tulsi leaves (handful)
Raktachandan (half teaspoon)
Multani mitti - two teaspoons

Grind neem and tulsi leaves in a mixer, add multani mitti and grind again to combine the mixture. Add some raktachandan (red sandalwood powder, easily available at most chemists, beauty stores, or try an arya vaidya sala near you) If you have normal skin you can add some honey to this mixture. Honey will ensure that your pack doesnt tug at your skin. But if you want your pack to make your skin feel taut and reduce the oil on your face , do not add honey. You may follow up with honey after washing off the pack. For best results, steam your face , rub some cleanser , massage well into your skin. Then using a cotton wool wipe off the cleanser to remove excess oil and dirt from your skin. Apply this pack on freshly steam cleansed skin that is still damp and warm. Once the pack dries and you wash it off. Splash some cold water on your skin. You can apply some aloe vera gel on your skin and leave it just so. Or apply some honey if your skin is feeling dry, and wash it off after 15 mins.

The second pack is one I make for my mother, she has normal skin, which does show signs of dryness and dullness due to age. This pack is perfect for brightening dull skin and I repeat is a superluxurious pack. It will make you feel like a princess.

Dried apricots (2-3)
Dates (2)
Almonds (4)
Walnuts (4)
Milk (2 tablespoons)*
Honey (1 tablespoon)
*Use milk cream if your skin is extremely dry and raw (unboiled)milk if your skin is oily.

Deseed dates and apricots. Soak them in warm milk or cream. Leave to soften for 10 minutes. Grind the dates and apricots with almonds and walnuts using the milk in which they were soaked to ease the grinding process. Mix in the honey and use this pack on steamed and damp skin. In fact for this pack I would recommend using a damp washcloth soaked in warm water left on your skin. Apply this pack on your skin. Let it dry. Once dry, take some warm milk and apply it on the pack , you can use the brush they use to apply henna for this purpose. Once the pack is moistened well , scrub in circular motion. If you don't moisten the pack well scrubbing will be painful. Wash off the pack with tepid water. Follow up with a few drops of almond oil. Splash your face with cold water after 5 minutes and dab dry. This will take away the oiliness of almond oil and close the pores well.

If this pack is being made for multiple uses, substitute warm milk for soaking dates and apricots with water as milk spoils easily. This can be stored in the fridge for upto 15 days. Mix with milk or milk cream just before use. And apply as usual.
